How To Troubleshoot And Repair DELL E151FP LCD Monitor With No Power Problem

The DELL E151FP LCD Monitor came in with no power symptom and upon opening up the cover I saw few components that were burnt. R623 (4.7 ohm) burnt at the side and you could still recognized the resistor color code. The current sense resistor (0.68 ohm) outer layer partly had came off and slightly burnt and the filter capacitor c605 (68uf 400v) one of the pins had became rusted and came off when I tried to desolder the pin.
This is not a new model and I believe lots of experienced techs had solved the problem. But for those who haven't come across this problem, you may use the procedure to troubleshoot and repair any other type of LCD Monitor with power problem.
I will first remove the power transformer and make sure it rings okay with dick smith flyback tester. I do this first because I don't want to waste my time checking other components and later only found out that the power transformer is the caused of the power problem. Once it rings okay I will measure all the secondary diode. For your information most LCD Monitor power supply widely used the dual schottky type diodes and the specification usually in the 10 to 20 amp with about 40 volts. However I do come across some designed are still uses the ultra fast recovery type diodes in the secondary section. Make sure you know how to check a normal diode and a schottky diode. Refer back to my website in the diode section and search for testing schottky diode article. I will then check for the ESR of electrolytic capacitors too.
Once I confirmed that the secondary side components are all tested okay, I would then proceed to remove all the components in the primary side. Some components in the primary side you can check on board like the bridge rectifier and fuse. If I'm new to the LCD Monitor model I would check all components off board (with a lead removed from board). With this way you will be sure that all components you have scanned through.
These are the components that I found defective; fuse-2A, R615-0.68 ohm, R613- 1K, R612-47 ohm, R623-4.7ohm, D604-1N4148, Q601-SSS6N60A, C605-68UF 400V and IC601-UC3842B. Total was nine components and it took me less than 20 minutes to check all the components in primary side. Now is the time to search for spare parts. After spending about 5 minutes in the spare part compartment I managed to find all components except the power fet SSS6N60A.
Though this part number is mostly used in switch mode power supply, my electronic supplier does not have this stock. I would then browse through the semiconductor databook to search for equivalent part number. From the book, it suggests to use the K1118 as replacement. After all components have put into their original place or location and of course with the power transformer soldered, I don't immediately switch on the power supply. I would first use a 100watt light bulb connected in series with the live line. The best place to put the light bulb is the fuse holder area. Remove one of the fuse lead and connect the light bulb across it. Power it on and begin to observe the bulb. If it brightly lit and stay that way then there is still problem in the power supply. However, if the bulb doesn't light at all then this is a good sign that the power supply may be working.
Use a multimeter to place at the secondary side with power on. If you get some accurate voltage reading from the outputs and the bulb doesn't light at all, then this confirmed that the power supply is working. Switch off the power supply and connect back the fuse and turn the LCD Monitor on again. I'm very sure the LCD Monitor will now work.
Whether you are troubleshooting the DELL E151FP LCD Monitor or other brands, you can always use the procedure given above to repair the power supply problem. This method can be even use to repair other types of power supply too. No matter what types of power supply you are troubleshooting, just make sure you know how to check and test the basic electronic components. If you ever miss one, sad to say you would not be able to solve the problem or it might just take you many of your precious hours to complete the job. Happy hunting!

LCD Monitor Problems - Easy Way To Repair It

Today's article talks about repairing the CMV 19" LCD Monitor problems model CM-922D. The complain was no power as what the customer told me. This power supply was not built into the circuit thus it need an external power adapter to power it up. The input to the LCD Monitor is 19V with 3.1 Amp from the adapter. Since the complain was no power, we have to test it out to check if the power adapter is at fault or the LCD Monitor.
The ac supply was plugged in to the power adapter and I could see the power LED was lighted up. Checking the output voltage of the power adapter I got about 19 volts which is good. Even though the LED has lit and correct output voltage, this doesn't mean that the power adapter can maintain when there is a load (the LCD Monitor) connected to it. I once came across a Compaq 17" LCD Monitor that have a precise output voltage from the power adapter but when connected to the Monitor, the display appeared for a fraction of a second before shutting down. Usually in this case, your experienced would tell you that it could be the inverter circuit are faulty or the lamps have problem. You would be surprised that the actual cause of the shutdown was due to the power adapter. It can't sustain the output voltage when there is a load on it.
This kind of fault was normally due to a bad filter capacitors located at the output of the secondary circuit. If you have ESR meter, you can actually locate the defective electrolytic capacitors fast. If you don't have the meter, just direct replace the caps. As mentioned in my previous repair articles, to confirm if the power adapter is truly working or not you need a light bulb to act as a load. Make sure the power LED light doesn't blink whenever the light bulb is connected. Even if it blinks one time, this proves that the regulation is not good and need to be check entirely. In the above china made LCD Monitor, the power adapter work perfectly fine!
Since I have already confirmed that the power adapter is good, my focus now was on the LCD boards. Removing this cover was very easy and you can easily access to the board when the metal casing was removed. The first thing that I checked was the SMD fuse located in the main board. If the fuse opens then there would be no supply to the ADC/SCALAR and the CPU IC thus the power LED would not light! Checking this SMD fuse was rather simple as the method of checking it is the same like a normal fuse. Use either an analog or a digital meter set to ohms range or continuity check. You can check the fuse while it is still in circuit. Yes, the fuse was found to be open circuit.
Now there is one question that needs to be answered by us. What makes the fuse to go open circuit? Well from what we have known about electronic repair, there are three possibilities as why a fuse opens circuit. First, the fuse can become open circuit due to its lifespan. Some fuses can last for many years while some only couple of years. In other words, the life span of a fuse depends on the qualities of the materials used. Secondly, the external factor such as a surge causing the fuse to open circuit in order to protect the main board. Thirdly, the main board itself have problem (such as a shorted IC's and other electronic components) that caused the fuse to open circuit.
If the LCD Monitor problems falls in the first and the second categories then replacing only the fuse will definitely solve the problem. However, for this LCD Monitor, replacing only the fuse didn't work at all and the fuse open circuit again. You have only two choices to solve this kind of problem. First you can use an external regulated power supply as explained in my previous repair articles and connect the negative output of the power supply to ground and the positive to the fuse (the line that leads to other circuitry) in order to detect the short circuit. Slowly vary the output voltage and monitor the current drawn. Once the current drawn about a amp or two, now place your finger to any electronic components in the main board. If you found any components that get very hot then that is the cause of the short circuit.
In this article, I'm going to do it differently to detect the short circuit. Are you ready? Now instead of replacing the fuse with the exact rating which is 3 amperes, I replaced it with a 5 amperes fuse. The purpose for me to put the 5 amp fuse instead of the 3 amp fuse was because "if the fuse doesn't blow then the component that have short circuit would blow". Do you get the idea? Three things can happen when you use this way to force out the culprit. First the power adapter may shut down due to heavy current draw from the main board. Second, the short circuit electronic components (either be a IC, diode, capacitors, transistor and etc) will get hot and you can quickly locate it easily by touching them. Remember don't on it for too long otherwise if the shorted components get too hot it will go open circuit and now you will have a hard time to locate the fault. Third, you may hear a pop sound and spark from the shorted component. Trace from where the spark came from and you can easily identify the location and sometimes to the actual component that generate the spark.
For the above LCD Monitor, I actually saw a small spark at the top part of the main board once the power input jack was connected. It prompted me to the exact location and when I check the SMD ceramic capacitor (that generated the spark underneath it) with analog meter set to X 10 K ohm range; it actually developed a slight short circuit. Replacing only the fuse and the SMD ceramic capacitor solved the no power problem in this 19" LCD Monitor. This Monitor uses the inverter IC (OZ960G), A1084-25CM (2.5 volts voltage regulator), AMC1117-3.3 (3.3 volts voltage regulator), ADC IC (MST8136B) and CPU IC (MYSON MTV312MV64).
Conclusion-There are always options as to which methods that you want to use to detect the short circuit. If you prefer the latter one, then I suggest you to take some photo shots first before anything really burnt out beyond description. With the photos, at least it will give you some hints of what the components might be or even the part numbers. Well, there's always an interesting way to solve electronic problems and this is one of the reason that I like electronic repair so much because you can always act as a detective to find out the culprit-real satisfaction! Oh! By the way, you can use the above method to any other electronic equipment and it is not limited only to problems repair. Have a great hunt my friend!

How to Write A Video Game Concept Statement

A game concept statement, or premise, is a short, direct description of the situation of a game. It describes the player's goal, the opposition to that goal, and the means through which that goal will be accomplished. When dealing solely with the narrative portion of the script, the game concept statement reads like a screenplay pitch. Realistically, game play is described because it effects some elements of the storytelling. A short example might read as follows:
"In Trick or Treat the player characters have been trapped in the labyrinth of an ancient haunted house. They must escape by destroying adversarial monsters, avoiding traps, and solving the maze. Trick or Treat is a third person perspective action game."
The goal of this writing is to give the reader a sense for the game. It should answer these basic questions:
  • What is the goal of the game?
  • How is the goal of the game accomplished?
  • What are the challenges to the game?
  • Where does the game take place?
Most people want to add marketing jargon and implementation specifics. This is simply a mistake. Reporting that is it is the best game ever, or that it will be available for the PS10 in 2020 just does not strengthen a concept. To put it bluntly, ths statement is about the concept. Concepts are general, high level notions. The concept of a car, for example, did not begin with the use of carbon fiber at the Indianapolis 500.
Do not include the following elements in a your writing:
  • Game platform (e.g. for the NES because I'm retro-chic)
  • Game rating (e.g. "M" for mature)
  • Game play specifics (e.g. controls)
  • Game programming details (e.g. uses recursive algorithms for speed)
  • Marketing (e.g. "more exciting than a ride on a roller coaster")
There are exceptions to every rule. There are times when it is important to add implementation details. These are exceptionally rare situations, such as a game designed solely to exploit a new type of controller or for use on a non-standard game platform. In these cases, it makes sense to touch upon the distinguishing detail.

LCD Monitor For the Computer

LCD monitors have many advantages over the conventional ones. The sleek and lightweight component was considered as an expensive option and it was mainly adopted in portable computers like laptops and notebooks. But in the recent past prices of this monitors have come down and even the low-end users are finding them affordable. Consequently they are now widely used for all types of computers. Even though they are expensive than the conventional CRTs, Liquid Crystal Display monitors are preferred by the consumers for their qualitative superiority. Further it is an energy saving option. No wonder it is the most popular format today.
LCD monitors are available in different sizes from 17 inches to 24 inches and larger wide screens for special purposes like gaming. Size and aspect ratio are two of the important factors that are to be considered while buying a monitor. It is available in two formats in this context. 4:3 is a very common one and 16:9 is for widescreen monitors. Those who seek an LCD monitor for an existing system should make sure that the video card is compatible with the native resolution of the new monitor. Native resolution is the physical count of the number of pixels on the LCD monitor.
In case the video card is weak, the user has to up grade it and make it compatible with the new LCD monitor. Most of the monitors available in the market are with DVI and HDMI inputs. Another technical specification is dot pitch and stripe pitch. Smaller the dot pitch better the image quality. It is the space between two adjacent pixels on the monitor. Stripe pitch is applicable to Trinitron or Diamondtron monitors and it is the space between two adjacent stripes of the same colour. Lesser stripe pitch is desirable to obtain better image quality.
Choice of a monitor depends on the use of the computer. LCD is considered as a sophisticated product. Conventional Cathode Ray Tube monitors are considered as outmoded by LCD enthusiasts. But the fact remains that CRT offers best colour saturation and many professionals prefer it for specialized jobs like video and photography. However, LCD is well known for it style and sophistication. Larger monitors are chosen by those who want it for multimedia tasks. Their image quality is incomparable. A positive contribution of LCD technology is its energy saving capability. Consumers who are generally concerned with the rising cost of energy are forced to opt for LCDs. In the long run savings on energy charges offset the cost factor.
Plethora of major and minor factors are involved in the business of choosing LCD monitors. Internet is a good source to gather information about the positive aspects of the emerging technologies. However, large sections of consumers are not conversant with the technical specifications and their impacts. Exclusive websites devoted to computer monitors are of immense help to consumers. The special websites impart valuable information about computer monitors and render help to the consumers in choosing the right products in given circumstances. Product reviews posted in the special websites are highly subjective pieces. The independent views expressed therein are valuable sources for the consumers to adjudge the products and services available in the markets.

How Video Marketing Works

r Video is Distributed Around the Net:
But don't stop there. Post your videos to your website and your blog page and promote them on your social media sites. Be sure and browse around these sites and see what additional tools are available to maximize your efforts.
This last step is automatic. Once you have your videos distributed, just sit back and reap the benefits.
Before you start cranking out videos, you need to consider what goes into a great video.
The main goal of a video series is to make sure that people find your video to be "worth watching". Our second goal is to ensure that after they view the video, they will want to learn more about the topic and will click the link to your website (and hopefully buy something!)
As you start working with video you will learn that not all videos need to be "spectacular" to be effective. The videos that you want to go viral you will need to spend more time on. The videos that you are using purely for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) purposes or to attract more leads don't have to be award winning or perfect.

Video Conferencing To Improve Company Productivity

In the world of business today with escalating economic pressure and immense global competition, time is a major factor. The common objective of businesses around the world is to reduce company downtime and improve productivity considerably. It seems to be of major priority subjects for employees and business holders across the globe. in order to sustain growth and reach the targets. In order to sustain growth and reach the targets, innovative technologies are set to make best use of every minute all through the day.
In spite of recruiting the best people, the major drawback is the employees get unmotivated and are unable to attend few important meetings. Surging technologies like video conferencing helps employees stay tuned and connected what ever may be the reasons.
The following are the few situations which tend the employees to keep away from office:
1. Continuous Meetings - Continuous meetings which require employees traveling, being away from home, discomfort sitting in traffic, waiting at airports and spending at hotel rooms are the few reasons which reduce the motivational spirit of the employees. Creating stress, unnecessary waste of time which could otherwise be used in office. Conducting meetings using online conferencing tools like video conferencing helps in attending meetings from the comfort of their house or office reducing unnecessary traveling.
2. Adverse Weather: Comfortable weather helps to make traveling easy for the employees, but one need to travel in drastic weather conditions as well. In severe rain, snow, sunny days it becomes tough to travel, resulting in poor attendance of the members at meetings from distant places. Implementation of video conferencing software avoids less attendance problem and helps getting connected from any part of the world and gives a feeling of present in the same room.
3. Health Issues: Employees suffering from cold still try to attend office as their attendance in the meetings is crucial. When employees are suffering from bad health their enthusiasm is down and coming to work place, they also create a dull environment with low esteem, making other employees also unmotivated. Attending a meeting from the comfort of their home using Video conferencing helps the employees to keep themself connected as well as being at rest at home.
4. Boosting Motivation: Unmotivated people bring down the business by bringing down the enthusiasm of others in the office. Using Video conferencing tool we can boost employees enthusiasm. Any motivational speeches can be propagated across the branches to rise the employees interest.
